September 11th 10 years ago the world was changed.

My World was changed. As a 5th grader the World Trade Center attack was one of the most surreal moments of my life. I wasn’t told what had happened until my mother picked me up from school around 1pm. I thought about her father (my grandpop), he was my only family member that worked in the World Trade Center. I was worried but i was always optimistic, so i felt that he was alright. Soon after my mother picked me up we got word that he was good, he worked in the lower levels so he was able to get out quick, but now he had to make a troop back to New Jersey.

Now I was taking in what was happening around me. Everyone (literally everyone) face was either mortified, worried or scared. This was a day where everyone was worried about someone else and I was confused; at the time I understood what had happened but did not understand the effect this attack had on America as a nation. Everything seemed surreal beginning with planes crashing into the tallest buildings in New York; the finical buildings of the World to hearing that terrorist hijacked planes and began crashing them into other places. I didn’t fully understand the impact of this attack until the next day, when i found out my other grandfather was missing.

Donald A. Foreman was a Port Authority officer for New York and New Jersey. When the planes hit the World Trade Center they called for support from all over the area (firefighters from New Jersey were coming to help). My grandfather went to help with the evacuation of Building 2, helping people to get out of harms way and out of the building that would later collapse. Donald A. Foreman was one of the many officers that were still in the building helping to get people out when it collapsed.

I remember asking my mother for about a week if they found him yet. I remember about a week and half after the attack they found a structure still standing. My optimism kicked back in and i sat by the T.V and watch the names streaming of the people that were found and the ones that were found but still had no way to contact family. I also seen the people with babies, families that were camped by ground zero. I remember thinking of the kids that lost both of their parents and I seen that everyone was mourning the same. If someone broke down and cried someone was their to hold them. Everyone felt the same pain and everyone was their for comfort for one another. Subconsciously i recognized the love of everyone else through my own pain and seen the beauty out of the situation.

September 11th 2001 ruined a lot of people’s lives and a lot of peoples trust. But it united the people. People showed the bond made us human. Though some people felt more pain then others, everyone showed the same amount of love for one another.

September 11th 2011 is day of remembrance. We remember the heros that sacrificed their lives to save others. We remember those who didn’t make it out the buildings to save themselves. We remember everyone who lost their lives on that tragic day

But we should also remember the bond that we all shared with one another. We need to remember that even when we have no one else we still have one another.

The power is there, we just need to tap back into it.
